Victor Heights
Victor Heights, nicknamed "Forgotten Edge" by longtime residents, is an eclectic and hilly neighborhood in the city of Los Angeles making up the most eastern section of Echo Park, a neighborhood located just northwest of Downtown Los Angeles. It is situated north of Sunset Boulevard, northeast of Angelino Heights and slightly west of the 110 freeway by Chinatown. The neighborhood considers Elysian Park its backyard since it lies adjacent to, and is literally a stones throw due south of the park. It is a mix of new and old housing styles as well as residents who span the socioeconomic and ethnic spectrums. Unknown to most Angelinos but a well kept secret by some, the hillside commands sweeping views of Los Angeles and the Downtown skyline. Some residents have southeast views all the way to Long Beach, a glimpse of the Pacific Ocean towards the west, or a span of the Hollywood Hills.
== Community ==
An eclectic mix of housing reflect the ever changing residential melting pot of this community. Ranch houses with good size land dating back to the late 1800s or early 1900s can be found hidden above pedestrian streets and behind lush settings. There are a few that have been designated as historic buildings. In the 1940s, Victor Heights was inhabited by a strong working class Italian community. Some homes in the area were built by those same Italian immigrants and whose children, although few, still reside in the neighborhood today. It is for this reason there are is still original 1940s architecture sprinkled throughout the hill and untouched. There are also quaint craftsman bungalows, mission style duplexes and apartments to be found amongst newer modern homes. In the past, and due to its proximity to Chinatown, Victor Heights has been inhabited by mainly Chinese families and a wide variety of ethnic and socioeconomic groups. The area is quiet and remains unchanged in some ways with a few residents of 30 years and beyond. However, similar to the other sections of Echo Park, this hillside is not immune to gentrification. More recently, there has been a quiet movement of revamped older architecture as well as the erection of architectural modern structures within the last decade. Today it is best known as an eclectic gathering of young creatives, musicians and new transplants mixed into the older community who can be seen trekking up and down the steep hills amongst one another during early morning hikes. It's commanding city views, proximity to downtown, central location, ease to local freeways, proximity to Silver Lake, Los Feliz and Hollywood has interested developers as well as filmmakers. You can find the streets of the "Forgotten Edge" in movies such as ''Training Day'' and ''Quinceañera''.
